State Rep. Bronna Kahle, of Lenawee County, today celebrated the City of Hudson’s Drinking Water Asset Management (DWAM) grant totaling $296,024.

“This investment in a local Lenawee County water system is a huge win for residents,” Kahle said. “I commend the state for awarding this valuable grant to the city of Hudson where it will be put to good use.”

The grant program was the first to be developed by the state Department of Environment, Great Lakes and Energy under the MI Clean Water Plan, which invests $500 million in upgraded community drinking water and wastewater systems throughout the state. The DWAM grant is available to assist water suppliers in Asset Management Plan development or updates, and Distribution System Materials Inventory as defined in Michigan’s Lead and Copper Rule.

This project involves work related to the City of Hudson’s drinking water Asset Management Plan (AMP) and Distribution System Materials Inventory. Field verification will be conducted for a minimum of 187 service lines out of their total 933. This includes hydro-excavation of either side of the curb stop and in-building documentation of service line materials.

The city’s drinking water AMP will be updated to include capital improvement planning and a rate sufficiency study.
