Rendon: Grayling to receive grant to help revitalize downtown area
RELEASE|November 6, 2020

State Rep. Daire Rendon today announced a grant to help create jobs and revitalize a vacant downtown building in Grayling.

The city has been selected as one of five communities throughout Michigan to receive support for renovation from the Michigan Strategic Fund, Rendon said, and the project will support growth and economic recovery. The company MBSHAW LLC has plans to rehabilitate a vacant, blighted building, creating space for housing and a unique, brand-new coffee shop.  The project is expected to generate a total capital investment of $714,333 and create 13 full-time equivalent jobs. In addition, the city of Grayling has secured EPA assessment services for environmental testing, which is expected to have a value of $40,000.

“This is huge news for our Grayling families,” Rendon said. “It’s great to be able to spread some positive news in the midst of such a chaotic year. This project will bring constructive change to our community and for our community members, as well as help attract tourists who will help our local business owners. It’s exciting news all around.

“I’d like to thank the Michigan Economic Development Corporation for its generosity and the community leaders in Grayling who have fought hard to make this a reality.”

Rendon added Grayling, like many communities in Northern Michigan, has a housing shortage. She said bringing in more housing opportunities will be a great addition to the community.
